<p>Yo-yo dieting is extremely common among people trying to lose weight. Some may have looked at unusual diets such as the cabbage soup diet, the grapefruit diet, and many people have tried low GI diets and the Atkins diet. Most diets work for some people but one problem with many weight loss diets is that people get bored not being able to include foods they like in their weight loss menus.</p>
<p>To make a diet work for you, you need to be interested in it. The best healthy diet plans include a variety of foods and flexibility so you can tailor your weight loss menus to suit your requirements.</p>
<p>A healthy weight loss diet includes weight loss menus that are easy to prepare, can sometimes be prepared in advance, and include a variety of foods which are interesting and contain all the essential nutrients you need.</p>
<p>There are many books and internet sites available which contain excellent weight loss menus. Look for ones which show you the calorific value, as low calorie diets are consistently shown to be the most effective. If you concentrate on the calorific value of your weight loss menus and the items you include in your meals, then you have the highest level of flexibility in your meal planning. If your diet plan calls for a lean steak and salad and you don’t like steak, all you need to do is to substitute the steak for lean chicken, some fish, or a vegetarian alternative.</p>
<p>Weight loss menus don’t need to be boring &#8211; you can also, within reason, add some treats sometimes. If you sometimes like a glass of wine or beer then you simply work out the number of calories in it and take out one of the other treats from the plan. Most weight loss diet plans include treats so this shouldn’t be too difficult. Obviously there are limits to this – it wouldn’t be a great idea to substitute all your weight loss menus with wine, the calories might be fine but you wouldn’t be getting many nutrients into your body!</p>
<p>If you are trying to lose weight but have other family members to cook for, then you can adapt your weight loss menus to suit others too. For example, they could have extra sauce with their meat, or dressing on their salad. It is especially important to make sure children are getting enough calories and fats in their diet and young children should always be given full-fat milk.</p>
<p>One thing to consider when choosing your weight loss menus is that studies show you should have more calories, and carbohydrates earlier in the day and your evening meal should be the lightest. Do not skip one meal from your weight loss menus and load on another, as your food intake should be spread throughout the day.</p>
<p>By following the weight loss menus you prepare, taking a little exercise, staying motivated and interested, and believing you can do it, you will lose weight.</p>

<p>One of the best things you can do to help prepare healthy meal plans is to create weekly meal plans so you can buy all your groceries in advance and you know what to make for each daily meal. This stops you from worrying each day about what you will cook. It also lets you look at the plans for the week and check that they are actually healthy meal plans, with a balance of all the nutrients that are needed.</p>
<p>Healthy meal plans needs protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fats. It is important to include good (polyunsaturated) fats. Lots of fatty meat, high fat dairy produce and fried foods is not good for anyone. Healthy meal plans consisting of fish, lean meat, poultry, wholegrains and fresh fruit and vegetables are a great basis to work from.</p>
<p>If you are looking for some healthy eating recipes there are a lot on the internet. Most foods also come with the nutritional values on the packaging which will help you when you are preparing your healthy meal plans for the week. Generally pre-prepared foods, whilst useful, are not as nutritionally healthy as home-made alternatives.</p>
<p>Some methods of cooking remove nutrients from food. If you are trying to create healthy meal plans the method of cooking is as important as the foods you include. If you have a pressure cooker use it for some of your cooking. Not only will it save you money but it is also healthier as it preserves the nutrients due to the speed of cooking. Likewise steaming vegetables or fish instead of boiling or frying preserves more vitamins and minerals.</p>
<p>Healthy meal plans don’t need to include meat or fish if there are members of your family who don’t eat them. It is very easy for example to create vegetarian versions of the meals in your meal plans. Many soya based meat substitutes, tofu and quorn have low fat and high protein values so they can be substituted easily.</p>
<p>Healthy meal plans don’t need to be boring. There may be less chocolate, it is true, but there are some fantastic fruit based recipes, oat and nut based snacks, and your children may grow to love home-made oatie bars and cereals more than shop-bought varieties.</p>
<p>Whatever your tastes in food, it isn’t difficult to make a few changes to your eating habits to turn your weekly menus into healthy meal plans. In combination with a reasonable level of activity then substituting sugary and fatty foods for more healthy ones could see your health improve and you could lose weight easily too, without trying too hard.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you are trying to lose weight but don’t eat meat then you may find it difficult to find diet plans for a <strong>vegetarian weight loss diet.</strong> Even if you are a meat eater, vegetarian foods can be very healthy as a vegetarian menu is generally high in fiber, complex carbohydrates and vegetables, providing all the nutrients you need to stay healthy. Vegetarian food is generally lower in fat, and the fats it does contain are usually of the healthier, polyunsaturated variety. That is one reason why a vegetarian weight loss diet can be so good.</p>
<p>Some people worry about their source of protein if they are following a weight loss diet. This needn’t be a problem because there are many sources of vegetarian protein. Dairy products are a good source but these are fairly high in fat, so not great as the main source of protein in a vegetarian weight loss diet. Meat substitutes such as quorn or tofu are high sources of vegetarian protein too, as are beans, lentils, chick peas and other pulses.</p>
<p>Breakfast is the most important meal in any diet, whether as part of a vegetarian weight loss diet or not. You should make sure you eat plenty of carbohydrates at breakfast. Oats are a good source of protein and very low fat, so porridge (made with water) would be an excellent start to the day in a weight loss diet. If you don’t like porridge, then a good alternative would be home made muesli made with oats, dried fruit, a few nuts, and seeds, and soaked in apple juice overnight. During the morning it is a good idea to have a snack to keep your blood sugars up – fruit is great for this. Just because you are following a vegetarian weight loss diet it doesn’t mean you have to stop snacking!</p>
<p>Your lunch is a crucial part of your weight loss diet. You need enough to keep you going for the rest of the day but want to avoid fatty foods. You could have a baked potato with a small amount of cheese, a rice and vegetable salad, pitta breads with mixed beans and salad, or baked beans on toast. All would be good sources of carbohydrate and protein. Why not make up a snack box of nuts and dried fruit for the afternoon munchies?</p>
<p>For your evening meal you should make sure you include vegetables and fruit. You could have stir fried tofu and vegetables with rice, a lentil bake with salad, quorn bolognaise, chilli beans and rice. You could follow that with fresh fruit, a low fat yoghurt, even a low sugar, low fat pie – just because you are following a vegetarian weight loss diet it doesn’t have to be boring.</p>
<p>To lose weight successfully you can’t get bored with your food or you will lose interest. Have a look for some low-fat vegetarian meals as part of your vegetarian weight loss diet plan, keep things interesting and you will be more likely to succeed.</p>
